BUILD AN ONLINE COMMUNITY THAT WILL MAKE YOU PROUD - PART 1

4 successful strategies for growing a rewarding network of yoga teachers

online yoga community, online yoga teacher, yoga teacher network,

From a personal and a professional perspective, establishing a community is one of the most valuable moves you can make as a yoga teacher.

Being in community with other yoga teachers can have several benefits for you as an individual:

  1. Emotional support.

  2. Money-making prospects.

  3. Mentorship possibilities.

  4. Personal connection.

  5. Learning and growth opportunities.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH TEACHING COMMUNITIES

Wanting to be a part of a network of yoga teachers was the main reason I started The Fig.

I had seen how much joy, how much support and learning I had gained from being a member of the yoga teacher’s community in Melbourne, in particular as a staff member at the Humming Puppy studio.

Through these communities, I had an assortment of individuals from different backgrounds, experiences and lineages who I could go to for advice or reassurance. Teachers who could connect me to job openings, who would offer me guidance on anything from how to write my yoga CV to what songs not to use in savasana.

All of which was especially helpful when I was just starting as a new teacher on the Melbourne scene.

But most importantly, through this community, I was connected on a deeper level to a group of teachers who I could offer guidance to, myself.

I was able to support them by providing constructive feedback when I went to their yoga classes; I had a network of teachers to refer to when I met a student whose needs I could not meet (e.g. prenatal students, who were not my niche); I was able to offer a shoulder to lean on or an open ear when things just weren’t going their way.

I learned first hand about the beauty and benefit of the authentic, collaborative relationships to be gained through building community. I experienced just how much they could help me moving forward in both my career and in my personal life.

WHY BUILD A COMMUNITY

Before you start on this journey of building or extending your network, think about what your specific participation in the community could offer to other teachers?

How could your skills and attributes help others financially perhaps? Or maybe you can offer support and guidance through your wisdom, past experiences and words?

To be frank, if you’re building connections just for money, then I believe you’re missing the point.

Community is all about creating mutually beneficial situations for both you and your network of teachers. Community is about giving as much as, if not more than, what you take.

CONCLUSION

In this video, I explain the importance of growing your connections with other yoga teachers in the online sphere and why it is super practical to do so for the future of your business, too.
